Vehicle Accident - 05/07/10 - Farmington, NM

On May 7th, 2010 at approximately 2050 hours, the driver of the cream-colored Ford pickup truck died in this multiple-vehicle crash that closed 20th Street in Farmington for several hours. Investigators believe the pickup truck skidded across East 20th Street crashing into several vehicles before flipping over. The vehicle hit the curb and skidded sideways across the road before striking the sidewalk on the south side of 20th Street. The truck then struck a fire hydrant and flipped onto two wheels. The truck, with the hydrant trapped under the vehicle, continued to slide and hit a Chevrolet Silverado which was traveling east. As soon as he hit the other truck, it flipped him back on all four wheels.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash but will wait for toxicology results before making a final determination. Just minutes earlier, the ford pickup left the scene of another accident, after the vehicle struck a dumpster. Police were dispatched to the scene of the hit-and-run but within minutes were rerouted to the crash on 20th Street.
