Structure Fire – 07/24/10 – Durango, CO

On July 24th, 2010 at 1756 hours the Durango Fire Rescue Authority (DFRA) was dispatched to a report of a barn on fire next door to 230 River Front Road. Under the County-Wide Automatic Aid Agreement, additional water tenders from the Los Pinos Fire District in Ignacio and the Upper Pine Fire District in Bayfield were also dispatched. DFRA Battalion Chief Tony Harwig arrived on scene and reported that he had a fully-involved barn with two trailers as immediate exposures. The incident occurred at 41 River Front Place.

DFRA Engine #1, under command of Acting Captain Tom Walsh, blitzed the fire with the deck-gun, as attack lines were being deployed. While the subdivision in which the fire occurred has a limited number of hydrants, none were close enough to supply the first-due engine and a water shuttle was initiated. The defensive fire attack resulted in the fire being brought under control in approximately 30 minutes. The cause of the incident is under investigation by the DFRA Fire Marshal’s Office.
