Structure Fire - 09/16/10 - Roselle Park, NJ
|
On September 16th, 2010 shortly before 1800 hours, Union County fire units were just beginning to clear from a working fire in Rahway when an urgent request for mutual aid was aired over the County MAC channel. Roselle Park Firefighters had heavy smoke showing from a one-story commercial structure at 107 Columbus Place. The fire eventually went to three alarms, bringing multiple mutual aid companies to the scene.

The building was occupied by a plumbing supply warehouse, and had a residential structure as an immediate exposure on the “B” side. A protection line was deployed to keep the fire from extending into the home. The fire had extended above the ceiling of the warehouse, and as bulk of the fire in the interior was knocked down, truck companies worked to open the roof area.

After opening the roof, companies continued chasing fire and at one point the fire had lit up in the roof corner on the “C” side. The fire occurred shortly after a severe thunderstorm had passed through the region. Firefighters had to be pulled from the structure as electrical service problems caused a chain link fence and other portions of building become energized. After the Power Company secured the utility, units were allowed to continue interior operations.
