Trash/Brush Fire - 07/29/11 - Bayfield, CO

On July 29th at 1747 hours, the Upper Pine Fire District was dispatched to the area of 5500 County Road 223 for a smoke report. Responding units could see a column of black smoke in the air, and arrived to find a growing trash/brush fire at 237 Holman Canyon Road. As Upper Pine Firefighters went to work to contain the blaze, the fire had extended to a cargo container being used for storage. Mutual aid was provided by Durango Fire (Water Tender) and the Wildland Hand Crew from the Columbine Public Lands Office (USFS/BLM) in Bayfield. One resident was transported to Mercy Medical Center with smoke inhalation. The fire was contained and controlled in approximately one hour.
