Gettysburg Fire Department Museum
|
The Gettysburg Fire Department Museum is part of the Gettysburg Fire Department, and is operated by members of the department who serve on the museum committee. These volunteers work to preserve the rich history of Gettysburg's fire service and maintain the collection for generations to come. Gettysburg's first "non-hand power" engine, a Silsby Steam Fire Engine, arrived in 1886. Named the "General Meade," the Silsby can still be seen today in the department's museum.

The museum is located on the north side of the Gettysburg Fire Department, and was built as part of the new station in 1992. The facility itself boasts adjustable lighting, the red rotator light from the old firehouse, and various display cases. Currently, museum tours are available upon request by contacting the station in Gettysburg. For more information visit the department’s web site at www.gettysburgfd.com/fdmuseum.
