Farmington, NM Fire Photos (3)

A number of abandoned buildings at the end of Herrera Road were the target of fire setters for many years. Captain Randy Wakeland utilizes a Master Stream to control one of the several incidents that occurred in that area.

Many a rookie has fallen for the “You need to sweep out the pole hole” gag. Here Firefighter Mark Zinser joins their ranks.

In a fire that occurred in August of 1998, the Diné College in Shiprock, NM lost a major portion of its present campus, which was a 1950’s boarding school abandoned by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In this photo Farmington Ladder 1 readies to set up.

This is Captain Hal Doughty explaining to one of the Shiprock Fire folks that the Master Stream on the end of Ladder 1’s aerial works much better with a water supply. Low pressure in the water system required a large tanker response from a number of San Juan County Fire Districts.

After realizing that supplying Ladder 1 was not going to happen, Farmington Firefighters were re-deployed to staff a 2½ handline.
