My Grandfather, Fred L. Buchholz at the VA Supply Depot Fire Station in 1943.

Chief Fred Buchholz modeling a new set of turnouts. "Pa" launched his Federal Fire Service career in August of 1943 at the Summerville facility when it was the "Jersey City Quartermaster Depot." It became the "Vetrans Administration Supply Depot" in 1947. Aside from a one month assignment to Camp Kilmer, Fred spent all of his time as a Federal Firefighter at the Summerville Depot.


My Great-Uncle, Chief John J. Partington (son of John T. Partington) at Fire Safety Demo -- Millburn, NJ Fire Station #2 in 1957.


The family also had ties to the Springfield, NJ Fire Department. My Great-Aunt Margaret Partington (daughter of John T. Partington) married Charles Schilling who was Chief of the Springfield Fire Department from 1953 to 1958. My cousin, Bill Murphy (grandson of John J. Partington) spent some time as a volunteer in Springfield. This photo of Bill is at structure fire on Baltusrol Way in Springfield from the late 1970’s.


My Great-Uncle, Captain Raymond T. Partington (son of John T. Partington) at Pump Test in Taylor Park (Millburn, NJ) in 1965 -- Who is That Kid?


My Sister, Volunteer Firefighter Peg Aurnhammer was a Member of the Millburn, NJ Fire Department from 1981 through 1986.


Photo from my father’s ID for the Essex County Prosecutor's Arson Squad. As a Millburn Police Department Lieutenant, Doug served with the Arson Squad from 1980 until the Prosecutor's Office discontinued the use of local fire investigators within their unit.
