Structure Fire - 02/02/08 - Bayfield, CO

On February 2nd, 2008 at approximately 1156 hours, units from the Upper Pine River Fire District responded to a report of a barn fire at 3511 County Road 502. First arriving firefighters encountered a well involved barn and an immediate exposure problem on the A/B corner of the fire building. Quick action from the first due company kept the fire extension into the exposure barn to a minimum.

Southwest Colorado has seen its share of winter weather over the last few weeks, and recent snows created some access issues for Upper Pine’s apparatus. At one point a Bulldozer that was being used to plow out a gas well access road was commandeered to clear the driveway to the fire scene. A Mutual Aid request brought an additional tanker to the scene from the Los Pinos Fire District in Ignacio, CO.

Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down firefighters overhauled what was left of the barn and started extinguishing the hay bails that were stored there. The fire was declared under control at approximately 13:50 hours, with fire personnel remaining at the scene mopping up into the late afternoon.
