Brush Fire - 03/27/10 - Center Point, NM

Spring was in the air as I crossed over the Colorado/New Mexico State Line around 1100 hours on March 27th, 2010 to hear San Juan County Fire Department District 7 (Center Point) being dispatched to brush fire at 27 County Road 2896. Dispatch reports indicated that a “controlled burn” at that location was no longer under control and the fire was heading towards structures in the area. Smoke was rising on the horizon when District 7 Firefighters requested mutual aid assistance from District 3 (Cedar Hill). I had arrived on scene just minutes ahead of District 7’s brush truck. As units from both districts arrived and went to work, the incident was controlled in approximately 1 hour.
