Here is one from the “strange-but-true” files. On November 24th, 2007 at 1836 hours, the Upper Pine Fire District was dispatched to a one vehicle roll-over accident in the 2000 block of County Road 501. I was traveling along County Road 501 in Bayfield when this call went out and arrived on scene before the dispatch ended. A white Dodge pick-up truck that had rolled four times before coming to rest approximately 200 feet UP an embankment. After establishing command and checking the driver for injuries, I passed the “IC duties” on to Chief Rich Graeber and started photographing the scene. Witnesses reported that the pick-up truck was traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to it leaving the road and rolling uphill. After the vehicle was stabilized, fire personnel provided treatment to the driver and passenger, who had self-extricated from the truck prior to my arrival. Both the driver and passenger were transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango.
