Colorado Fallen Firefighters Memorial

This bronze life-sized memorial on pillars of Colorado rose granite forever marks the ultimate sacrifice these men and women made. Situated in Lakewood town center in Lakewood, Colorado, the memorial is engraved with more than 100 names of Colorado's fallen firefighters. The fallen firefighters memorial will represent their deeds in dignity for all time.

Durango Firefighter Nick Parks III, the late husband of my friend Loretta Parks, has his name carved into the monument. In 1974 an early-morning fire caused by arson in the 800 block of Main Avenue in Durango destroyed nine businesses and several apartments. Firefighter Parks and a Durango Police Officer were killed when an explosion brought down a brick wall. May they rest in peace.
